My Blog

This is my personal Blog. If you want to read the Fripp Design blog please visit www.frippdesign.co.uk/blog

I remember getting a taxi journey in London last year. the driver seemed to know that we were heading into recession way before the economists and the politicians seemed to realise. I asked the question "how do you know" and his response was "average journey times go down mate!".

Although frustrating; the average journey times getting around Sheffield does not seem to have changed...maybe manufacturing is not suffering as bad as the city of London...watch this space!

"Why Pay for Design?"

At Fripp Design I'm often asked the question, mainly by inventors; why do I need a designer? Well in a hope to preserve the efforts of the design community, here goes;

We designers have spent years training to be in the position to do design; we are professional engineers.

You pay a mechanic to do work on your car; but would you want a car mechanic fixing a jet engine on commercial aircraft?

Of course not (at least I hope that is the case!!!). You would want a fully qualified engineer doing the work (as would I).

Product Design is an integral pre cursor to any product/device we all come to in the public domain so we have to design to the same standards as the engineer working on a jet engine...different disciplines, I appreciate, however I'd bet me and the other designers at Fripp have the training and experience of any professional engineer in Product Design.

Like an engineer I think we're in the business of risk reduction.
